“1/125 second often says more than a video of 10 minutes. That's what i think. Photography for me is catching the most important moment, in the right place (light, perspective), with the good lens. What is essential too is to wait and shoot only once or twice when the moment comes. Even with digital systems because i could use motor and choose after… this way of working has no sense for me. Photography is a language and tells stories.”
Equipment used:
Nikon F2, Nikon FM, Nikon D80, Nikon D600. Nikkor lenses (the same for all bodies, in manual without autofocus). Everything that can take a photo…
Why BW? Black and white is the beginning of photography. Sometimes i use a sténopé for the emotion it gives. BW is tradition. I always work in “manual position”, choose my speed and aperture. It must not be a chance. BW allows you homogeneous pictures, grain you can’t get with color. You can check all that with precision when you do the lab if you are working with films, at home or when you do post production with digital system.
I’m graphic designer. I studied in an art school photography, graphics, color, sculpture, drawing, engraving. Today, when i’m starting a project (logotype, layout in advertising or publishing) it’s in black and white. For me, photography is exactly the same way of working : concept, composition, perspective, symmetry. Looking for the lines. It’s like playing. It’s only the tool that changes. Everything interest me but maybe i’m looking for an other way of showing life.
